German IT companies with 10 – 499 employees remain on a growth path. In one year the number of medium-sized IT enterprises increased by four percent up to 9,092. Therefore, the growth for this size class is significantly stronger than for the smallest companies with less than 10 employees and the large ones with 500 or more employees. These are some of the results from the Bitkom’s IT Mittelstand report. The revenues of those companies rose also more than the average by four percent up to 57.4 billion euro; the number of employees grew even by six percent up to 395,490 employees subject to social insurance requirements.

According to the Bitkom’s Mittelstand report, the positive development of the companies will continue. Almost three quarters of the medium-sized IT enterprises (72 percent) expect increasing revenues in the last two quarters of the year, every fifth company (19 percent) counts on stable returns comparing to the previous year’s period. 60 percent of medium sized IT enterprises generate revenues also abroad. Six out of ten companies (60 percent) plan on hiring new employees during the current year, one third (34 percent) will keep the employment number constant.
